National Day - Storks
The Storks (Zayed House) were learning about the emirate of Abu Dhabi on this, the 45th National Day of the UAE, Al Yasmina celebration. The class worked hard together to create a wonderful picture of the Abu Dhabi Corniche during the National Day celebrations, with all the brightly decorated cars. We had a wonderful day and everybody looked absolutely fantastic in their national dress and in the colours of the UAE flag!
National Day Activities in Spoonbills
Spoonbills had a fun filled day today, jam packed with activities! We were learning about Dubai as our Armstrong House Activity. We made UAE coloured finger knitting bracelets and decorated biscuits to look like the UAE flag. We were also very proud of ourselves getting an almost perfect score on the UAE National Day quiz.
Take a look at some photos of our bracelets and biscuits.

National Day Flamingos
Today marked the celebration of the 45th National Day of the UAE. We had a fantastic day wearing our national dress and colour's of the UAE. Followed by an afternoon banquet where we all sat and ate food from the UAE together. Flamingos class then learnt Facts about Ras Al Khaimah as each house focused on a different Emirate.

Super Hero Spoonbills
In Design and Technology we have been designing Super Hero Emblems, which we have then painted onto our own hand dyed Super Hero Capes. Thanks to a very artistic Mrs Stephanie Galea, with her amazing painting skills we have a wonderful backdrop for our Super Heros to fly across!
Take a look!
I am sure you will agree with me that the photos look stunning!

Year 2 Herons
have had lots of fun recently learning about lots of different Maths concepts.
Herons loved subtraction and multiplication. We also completed lots of active
activities when learning about length.
Spoonbills - Talk for Write
Over the last two weeks we have been using Talk for Write to help improve our storytelling. We built upon our work on Little Red Hen and adapted the story structure to write a story about a hungry Super Hero called Twister Boy. By the end of the week we had written a story using our senses for description, amazing adjectives, a new line for a new speaker that was correctly punctuated with speech marks and synonyms for said!
Take a look at our story in action using our Talk for Write actions and some we made up ourselves!
Which one is your favourite Super Hero Action?!
Spectacular Scientists - Herons
Herons loved
learning about different materials. We found lots of materials in school; we
looked at their different properties and discussed where each type of material would
be best used. We collated them in our posters.
House day - Tuesday 15th November.
Dear Parents,
On Tuesday 15th November, your child will
take part in the Primary House Day. This day is packed full of activities and
your child will be off timetable for the duration of the day. Can I please ask
that your child wears their house t-shirt and their P.E shorts on this day. If
you still do not have the official house t-shirt, a t-shirt in the colour of
your child’s house will suffice.
We are also asking the children to bring in a number
of items to assist them during the House Day activities. Below is a list of
items that we would like to collect. If you can bring any of these items in,
that would be fantastic. Children can give them to their class teacher on
Sunday, Monday and Tuesday:
-
Packets of Spaghetti (long, thin pasta)
-
Packets of Marshmallows (any shapes and sizes)
-
Empty toilet rolls
-
Cardboard boxes
-
Aluminum / silver foil
-
Newspapers
Thank you for your support in what should be a
fun-filled day.
Many thanks again

Storks - Talk for writing
The Storks are really enjoying the new 'Talk for Writing' unit in English lessons. The children are learning actions to imitate the key language needed to tell stories orally before they try reading and analysing them. Through these fun activities they will rehearse the tune of the language they need, which will be followed by shared writing to show them how to craft their writing, in the same style.
Here we can see the children telling the story of the Little Red Hen. They are using actions for the key language: once upon a time, early one morning, who.
Now, we can see the children also using the actions for time connectives: first, then, next, finally.
