As you know our topic is called heroes and villains so in our topic lessons we have now moved onto learning about real life
villains from the past. This week the Flamingos designed a wanted poster using the facts they had learnt about the real life villains such as the great train robbers.

Storks - English Open Morning

The Storks had a wonderful time with their parents at the English open morning this morning! Thank you so much to all the parents who made it in.
We loved showing off the different skills we learn in our English lessons.

  • Character description - we described a hero or a villain using wow adjectives.
  • Setting description - we described a setting using our senses.
  • Sentence structure - we created sentences focusing on punctuation and conjunctions.
  • Instructions - we ordered jumbled up instructions using our knowledge of the features and language of instructions.

Mindful Flamingos

In mind up we read - how do dinosaurs eat their food by Jane Yolen and we had to say if the dinosaur was being mindful or unmindful. Then we had statements which we had to organise into mindful and unmindful actions. Below are pictures of Mihika, Haya and Daniel with their work and their own suggestions of mindful and unmindful actions. To end the mind up session we did a calm down listening to relaxing music and listening to Mrs hall’s voice telling us to imagine flying high in the sky as birds and what we might see.

Storks - Following verbal instructions to play a game

The Storks had a lot of fun in their English lesson on Monday when we went outside to play games! The children had to show that they could follow verbal instructions by listening carefully and then being able to play new games - Hoops & Freeze Ball Tag. Ask your child to explain how to play the games and have some fun together.

Live from Chris White... a real life author.

Right now Year One and Two are listening to Chris White tell us all about his books. He is a real life author.

At the moment he is getting us to warm up our voices by singing in silly voices. We are finding it really funny.

Chris just asked us what we were going to do next and he had some funny suggestions.

Let's...
Jog with a sausage dog
Get funky with a monkey
bake a cake with a snake
go ball kickin with a  chicken
visit the moon with a raccoon
make a fuss of a walrus

It turns out Chris was reading his poem. If we use our imagination we can do all of these things!

Chris is so exciting, we will be here for another hour. Later we will comment what our favourite thing Chris tell us is, i'm sure it will be exciting!

Have a look at Chris White's website! veggievampire.com And let us know what you think.

Spoonbills - Finger Knitting & Super Hero Sandwiches

Spoonbills had so  much fun this week making Super Hero sandwiches and  finger knitting we just had to share!

Maths Spotlight - Spoonbills

Spoonbills have been looking at addition and subtraction this week. We have done a wide variety of activities on addition and today started on subtraction. Some groups were working on subtraction using the numbers 1-10, others were using numbers from 1-20 and one group were being challenged to use the -9 rule ( - 10 then + 1). What we have all learnt is we really need to practise our number bonds so that we can do them without having to use our fingers or counters. However, until you do know them off by heart using counters and cubes was a great strategy!

Here is a game we enjoyed playing that you might like to try at home. We used it for number bonds and you can too to help the children practise! There are other games too, enjoy!

Storks - Superhero Sandwiches

We had such a fantastic time making 'superhero' sandwiches with our mummies and daddies today! Thank you so much to all the parents who managed to join us this morning and help us make a healthy sandwich, fit for a superhero! The children followed Miss Orr's instructions beautifully and even wowed their parents with their impressive knowledge of time connectives, bossy (imperative) verbs and adverbs  [ all very important 'ingredients' for writing instructions].

ICT Spotlight - Spoonbills

We have begun exploring Scratch and making simple Algorithms. We were able to add a new character and background. Once this was done we input instructions for our characters to move (an algorithm) and speak by using speech bubbles. As you can imagine it was great fun!
Take a look at us in action in the slide show below. Also here are some pictures of what we have created so far.
Ilvy said "It's fun and it is nice to play on."
Adam said "You can make them be silly and do all sorts of other things."
Orin said "I like it when you can make them move anywhere and that you can control them!"

Storks - Marking cats!

Did you know that Miss Orr's cats like to help her with her marking in the evenings!? Mau (the white one) helped Miss Orr pick the correct colour of pens (pink to think or green for go) while Stinky found some fantastic openers, wow adjectives and made sure full stops and capital letters had been used! They really are very clever cats!

New Golden Table Winners!

Hillary house have got 10 star balls! Look at them having lunch at the golden table!
